Creating contemporary abstract photography consumes my world.
While shooting on location, I often find myself suddenly stopped up short, struck by something visually stunning, special, unique of form, lines, patterns, color. Seeing is my profession, that’s what I do, ultra-penetrating perception, my goal. I create my image with the camera and lens as I see it, then post process it into a piece of abstracted art that begins to emerge in the limitless darkroom magic that is pixel editing. It is a complex nuanced, personal narrative. My final fine art print must go beyond the literal, be responsive to inner feelings, and create a new reality - it's purpose is to provoke reflection, a reaction in you, the viewer, the same emotion that stopped me in my tracks.
Nothing else matters when I am caught up in this “flow” of creative expression, focusing on the original visual impact, concentrating on the capture and improvising throughout the image processing - total involvement, total immersion, my becoming a part of it. The action carries me forward as if by magic. The moments, especially on location, are experiences of extreme joy, feelings of ecstasy, that stay in my mind, are the most interesting, that I wish would go on forever. Once I am in this situation, it’s incredibly real and I’m very much in charge of it. It becomes my entire world, this creative, process. I lose myself in it but gain optimal experience which is an end in itself, winding up enriched with new skills and fresh images. The expressive art then becomes an exciting source of flow for me and hopefully for you the viewer, as well.
